How To Avoid Job Scams
Fake jobs are one of the biggest online scams. They are quite rampant in the remote work world, unfortunately. Scammers advertise jobs the same way legitimate employers do. They promise you a job, but they are after your money and personal information.
These steps will help you recognize and avoid job scams:
Research the employer. Look up the name of the company or the person who’s hiring you, plus the words “scam,” “review,” or “complaint.”
Make sure the company has a reputable website and/or valid references.
Legitimate employers will never ask you to pay to get a job. Never.
Never give out personal information like your passport number or bank account number over email or phone.
Never wire funds via Western Union, MoneyGram, or other services.
No legitimate potential employer will ever send you a check and then tell you to send on part of the money or buy gift cards with it.
If the job looks too good be true, then it probably is!
